What is Nou Barris Net?
Nou Barris Net is a citizen network of the Barcelona district Nou Barris. A new way to potencialize the reception of citizens, without exclusion, into the open and participative society of information.
Nou Barris Net is an idea created by Projectart and it counts on support from Barcelona's City Council - Nou Barris sector, also from the Society of Information's Commissioner, the Jaume Bofill Foundation and from the Catalan Institute of Technology.
Objectives
To improve the possibilities of communication, dialog and access to information about Nou Barris neighbours, organisations, administration, businesses and commerce and social services.
To prevent any kind of social discrimination concerned with access to the new t echnology of the lesser-favoured sector.
To take advantage of Nou Barris' associated richness, its history and its outstanding capacity to introduce its citizens and organisation into society of information.
To provide a useful instrument of information about the district, with news bulletins, cultural activities and communal initiatives of social interest.
To make Nou Barris known and integrated in the outside world.
To create a space of social exchange by way of a virtual community which serves to improve the real community's quality of life bringing with it social, economic, cultural and educative benefits.
To potencialize the electronic democracy, the relationship between government and administrations with the citizen and to create new ways of democratic control debate, access and participation.
To stimulate the creation of new types of jobs and business initiatives in connection with information technology.
What does Nou Barris Net offer?
Free Internet access for the Nou Barris organisations. During 1999, 25-50 Internet accounts will be available to the associations. In the future, the objective is that all the social services have Internet access, an e-mail account and the possibility of a Web page.
The possibility of low cost Internet access for Nou Barris neighbours.
Free formation and technical services for the organisations.
The creation and maintenance of Web pages.
An electronic newspaper with Nou Barris daily news provided by the news provided by the news services of Nou Barris Television.
A diary of all the activities which take place in the area.
Discussion forums covering matters of interest to the associations and social services.
Distribution lists.
