Nou Barris, que havia nascut com a districte un parell d\u2019anys abans, necessitava un eix vertebrador que relligues el territori i la Via J\u00falia, que amb la reforma s\u2019havia convertit en una rambla, havia de complir aquesta funci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YyYQa_HOVqE\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Els arquitectes municipals Bernardo Sol\u00e0 i Josep Maria Juli\u00e0 van decidir transformar la via J\u00falia en una mena de museu d\u2019art urb\u00e0. Amb aquest objectiu van encarregar diversos projectes a escultors que en aquells moments comen\u00e7aven a despuntar, com Jaume Plensa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A un dels extrems de la Via J\u00falia, s\u2019hi havia de situar el Monument a la Rep\u00fablica es va decidir que a l\u2019altre extrem, tocant a la via Fav\u00e8ncia, calia situar un nou element monumental.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El projecte va ser encarregat a Antoni Rosell\u00f3, qui va dissenyar un far que hauria de servir com a refer\u00e8ncia a la zona. Dos elements formen l\u2019escultura: el fust de la columna, que es troba dividit en set parts, i la base de pedra, una escalinata pensada per tal que els vianants puguin seure i contemplar el passeig. Un tercer element havia de permetre que aquesta torre de vidre i acer cort\u00e8n de 24 metres d\u2019al\u00e7\u00e0ria encara fos m\u00e9s monumental. Des de la torre s\u2019havia de projectar un potent feix de llum que seria visible des de molts punts de la ciutat, per\u00f2 la pot\u00e8ncia de la xarxa el\u00e8ctrica ho va fer inviable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El dia de la seva inauguraci\u00f3, el 5 de juliol de 1986, tamb\u00e9 veia la llum una altra de les noves escultures de la Via J\u00falia, Als nous catalans, J\u00falia l\u2019obra de Sergi Aguilar.
